Make next year your best year!

Stefan Wissenbach

Many of us come out of the Christmas holiday break with our waistlines a little wider – and our wallets a little thinner! We’ve often spent a great deal of time, energy and money planning the perfect Christmas for our loved ones to enjoy. We’ve carefully selected the gifts we knew they’d love and enjoyed some fabulous food. We’ve gathered together with our closest community members and enjoyed good times!  It’s taken a lot of planning and preparation but it’s so worth it – after all, it’s only once a year!

As the festivities draw to a close and life returns to normality for many of us, now is a time for reflection. A time to reflect on the year that’s just passed; the highs, the lows, the laughter, the tears, the challenges, the fun, the experiences, what we’ve learned and how different life is than it was 12 months ago.

And, at this time, people all over the world are thinking about what they’re going to do in the year ahead. The change from one year to the next reminds us all that time is passing. And that makes it the perfect time of year for planning to make next year your best year yet!

Most people will be full of excitement and determination to stick to New Year’s resolutions (perhaps to shift those extra Christmas pounds!). They say to themselves ‘this year I’m going to stick to my New Year’s resolutions because this time I’m serious and I mean it’. Just like previous years though, most people rely on their determination and willpower to see them through. For many, it’s not enough.

And, when the New Year begins, many struggle to stick to the goals they committed to, like sticking to a healthy eating and exercise regime. Their enthusiasm wavers and they end up later in the New Year just as they have in others – failing to keep the promises they set themselves. They don’t achieve what they set out to do, and don’t get the results they really wanted at the turn of the year.

But wouldn’t it be great if 2014 ended up being different – and you made it the year that started with success, the year you fulfill the promises you’ve made to yourself. Wouldn’t that feel fantastic and spur you on to make the next year your best year ever?  The answer, of course, is yes!

So, what’s going to be different this year? Well, here at MagicFuture®, we can help you look into the future with imagination and ambition. But more than that, we can also help you set and achieve your goals in 2014 so that the next time the New Year’s celebrations come around; you can feel proud of your progress. Our tools and features mean that those important 2014 goals will be achieved, and not be forgotten or abandoned before the end of January!

Here’s five top tips to help you get off to a great start in 2014 and make it your best year yet!

1.    Get excited about your ‘magic’ future – Think about where you want to be 3 years from now. Then think about where you want to be 1 year from now. From that, pick up to 3 goals that will help you achieve that one year vision. Make sure you pick some actions in relation to those goals that you can get started on right away (in the next week!) and you’ll feel the momentum build as you make progress.

2.    Share your goals with people you respect – and report on your progress weekly – This is one of the golden rules of goal setting – and a secret weapon to achieving goals. Magic Future’s neat goal sharing tool helps you do this, a tactic which results in a huge 77% uplift in your chances of achieving your goals!

3.    Focus on no more than 3 goals – This is key. It requires super human powers to focus on more than 3 goals at a time, and the more you add, the thinner you spread your attention. Instead, focus on the 3 most important goals, or a goal you can accomplish quickly. If you accomplish a goal, replace it with a new goal. Repeat this process to continue growing and developing.

4.    Stay connected to your goals – Most New Year’s resolutions aren’t achieved because people don’t maintain focus on the goal. Keeping connected to your goal means it’s much more likely you’ll achieve it. Use the Magic Future mobile app to stay connected, and take a little time at the beginning of every day to remind yourself where you’re heading so you stay on track!  I call this reflection time my ‘magic minutes’. We can all make a little time for ourselves, if it’s important!

5.    Regularly reflect on your progress – While New Year’s Day provides us all with a time to think about our past actions and future goals, you don’t have to wait for the end of the year to do this. Instead, take the time at least once a month to review your progress. See where you’ve fallen short and learn from it. Use your successes and achievements as motivation to propel yourself forward and achieve even more.

I’m excited about the year ahead and how much opportunity 2014 brings. I’m personally using Magic Future to achieve some big goals for 2014 (including losing another 24lbs – in the next 90 days – a goal that will be shared and I’ll stay connected to!)

Go on, join me in making 2014 your best year yet!
